Where the city meets the sea, that’s where you will find Whangarei two hours drive north of Auckland. A medium sized, laid back city near the top of the north island. The urban population of Whangarei is approx 55,000, though the district extends from Langs Beach in the south to Bland Bay in the north with a total approximate population of around 68,000. Whangarei enjoys a temperate climate and has about 2,000 hours of sunshine annually. Whangarei is Northlands largest city and is nestled at the foot of forest clad hills facing an extensive and picturesque harbour. Whangarei CBD is only a 5 minute walk from the stunning Quayside, Town Basin development.
The district coastline boasts some of New Zealand’s finest beaches and marine attractions, and is also known for its fertile farmland, thriving horticulture and beautiful native forests. Whangarei’s beautiful beaches are all within a 30 minute drive from the city with sparkling white sands on the Tutukaka coastlines and the tranquil beauty of Whangarei’s deep water harbour which leads to more spectacular coastal beaches.
Housing in Whangarei is more recently developed than most NZ provincial centres, with more than 60% of the housing developed since 1965. A unique feature of residential accommodation is the wide variety of lifestyle properties within 30 minutes commuting distance.
